Period 2/3 Eleven Essay
The story “Eleven” is a short story written by Sandra Cisneros. It is about a girl, Rachel, whose birthday gets ruined by an ugly, old sweater that isn’t even hers. She does a couple of things the one might find to be or not be credible.
Rachel feels too shy to explain to the teacher that the ugly sweater wasn’t hers. A lot of other kids her age would probably do the exact same thing. Who wouldn’t be with 30 other students watching with a teacher yelling at you. So overall, she is credible for being shy.
Another thing Rachel does is cry. She does it because she feels embarrassed wearing the ugly old sweater. I don’t really think she is credible for this because it is just a sweater. I do not think that anyone would cry if they have to wear a sweater.
Rachel also calls Felice Garcia stupid. It was Felice telling the teacher that the sweater was Rachel’s that made this catastrophe. I could understand that an eleven year old would do that, so she’s credible.
So, overall, Rachel is a believable character. The author did a good job for making these characters. So I think that eleven year olds would do the same thing.
